The Naval Officers Association of BC

The Naval Officers' Association of British Columbia (NOABC) was founded in 1919 at the end of WWI by returning Naval Officers to maintain the friendships that had been formed during the war and to promote a strong and modern Naval Service.

Our goals today are:

  • The furtherance of Canadian maritime interests
  • To support the Maritime Command of the Canadian Forces
  • To foster public awareness of the contributions made by the men and women who serve Canada at sea
  • To participate as an affiliate of the Naval Officers’ Association of Canada (NOAC) and work in close cooperation with NOAC and other Naval Officer Associations
  • To foster and assist in the welfare of all members and former members of the of the naval forces of Canada and their dependents
  • To sustain and deepen the interest of members and others in the activities of the Naval Reserve, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, and the Navy League Cadet Corps
  • To support the Naval Museum in HMCS Discovery

Why Join NOABC

  • Renew old friendships with naval colleagues and enjoy the many social activities organized each year.
  • There are two major mess dinners. In the fall we hold a “Surrender Night Dinner” and in the spring the “Battle of the Atlantic Dinner” is held to remember that great conflict and those lost.
  • There are in addition several smaller events held in the Wardroom of HMCS Discovery.
  • The last Wednesday of each month from September to November features a speaker and lunch in the Officer's Mess, 15th Field Artillery, the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery.
  • There are also opportunities for day trips in one of the visiting warships based in Esquimalt.
  • NOABC participates in the November 11 services at the cenotaph and on the first Sunday of May we join the parade at Sailors’ Point in North Vancouver for the Battle of the Atlantic service.
